Counselling is a talking therapy which can help you understand and manage yourself and any problems you may be experiencing. IAPT counsellors are trained to build trusting, respectful relationships, offering a safe place to allow you to talk freely and openly and explore ways to move forward. Our counsellors are trained in Counselling for Depression, Couples Counselling, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). They can offer appointments across the Kirklees area.

Building Confidence Course

The Building Confidence course is intended to help people who would like to improve their ability to cope with difficulties and problems in their lives regarding their confidence. It focuses on interpersonal interactions, how to address relationship problems and confidence issues. The counsellors facilitating this course will teach you about different models of Counselling and there will be exercises for you to get involved with in each session. Members of the group can share with others issues that they are facing and can talk about these, if they feel comfortable to do so.

The course runs for five sessions and will cover:

  • Understanding confidence
  • Understanding communication styles
  • Patterns in relationships/unhelpful thinking styles
  • Negative Self Talk/Boundaries
  • Learning relaxation and breathing techniques
  • Self Care
  • Life Balance

Mindfulness Course

You might benefit from our Mindfulness Course if you are prone to worrying or find it difficult to let go of situations or events once they have passed. It is a simple skill using your attention in a kind and non-judgemental way. Mindfulness can help with reducing anxiety and improving relationships, as well as improving your overall mental and emotional well-being.

During the six weeks of the course you will:

  • Be introduced to mindfulness
  • Learn how to keep your mind more in the present
  • Understand more about how you might be affected by the actions of your mind
  • Learn and practise mindfulness based techniques to use in daily living
